[AFL-Preview] ROUND 6

AFL PREVIEW ROUND 6

27 from 40 = 67.5%

Only round 6 and the tipping is already getting annoying. I am able to pick some of the upsets but missing the obvious. That mixture is keeping us in touch with the leaders. Keep tuned. Concentrating too much on the poetry and counting how many times the umpires are being hit by players with incidental contact to get all the tips right. There are some games this week that defy confidence but let’s see what we can do.

Sad loss of Richard Pratt this week but is it an emotion strong enough to pick against the Blues this round in an important game against the Hawks who really are not travelling well. There was not a lot of other football news really here in the west apart from the usual press beat up of the derby between Freo and the Eagles. Oh yeah, Ben Cousins may be back for the Tigers but apart from a sports clip on the radio I haven’t seen a lot in the papers. What a pleasant change. Anyway, another late night so let’s move.

North Melbourne V Collingwood Friday Night Telstra Dome

How the Pies allowed that game against the Bombers to slip away is beyond me, the coach, the players and 70,000 supporters, most of them Essendon!! Collingwood is a team renowned for bottling up play when in control and they just allowed the Essendon players to clear the ball through stoppages straight down the ground to kick 3 goals in about 2 minutes. You have no idea how peeved we all were watching that game apart from the son-in-law who is an Essendon supporter. He certainly had his moment in the sun that afternoon. Collingwood have Shaw and Maxwell back while the Roos lost Harvey for a something like 10 weeks which is like nearly all season. North should not win this game. North better not win this game. North will not win this game!!

Hawthorn V Carlton at MCG Saturday

Well this is definitely one of the more difficult games from which to pick a winner this week as Hawthorn won last week against the Eagles, not impressively, and the Blues really walloped the Bulldogs who were being touted as premiership material up to two weeks ago – then lost two games in a row. Carlton players probably all attended Pratt’s funeral and that might have some emotional effect on them. Hawthorn just need to revive from last year’s grand final as they are playing very flat football and that will cost them the game against Carlton if they continue in that fashion. Is Carlton really that good? 3rd on the ladder!! That is freaking me out. Put them down for a loss.

West Coast V Fremantle Saturday Subiaco

Now be honest tipsters. If the Dorks had not won last week would we be even writing this up in more than 2 lines? I didn’t think so. Pav plays his 200th which is quite a feat and last week he answered his critics with a very polished performance around the ground. In fact the Dockers played pretty well, with some intensity that was certainly missing in the first 4 weeks. The Eagles also put up a pretty good fight against the reigning premiers and at one stage late in the game actually hit the front. The loss of Palmer for Freo is a big loss and West Coast has dropped Stenglein. Hmmm. Still think the Eagles have enough talent around the ground just that bit better than the Dockers to take this match out. That’s the tip.

Port Adelaide V Adelaide Saturday night AAMI

Did anybody watch that game between the Demons and the Crows last week? Abysmal, much like the game was between North Melbourne and the Tigers. This week we are expected to pick the Power to win a game of football after their display against the Saints, a game in which they kicked..was it 5 goals? Then again Adelaide didn’t kick a lot more against Melbourne and they won. Tipsters, it’s results like this that make you scratch your heads and reach for that coin to help you make that final determination. Who knows? Who cares? This is an unconvincing tip.

Brisbane V Essendon Saturday night Gabba

Brisbane Lions were smashed by Geelong last week so they will need to put in a complete form reversal to have any chance against the high flying Bombers who will still be dreaming of Anzac Day victory against the enemy – Collingwood. The game will be close but at home the Lions are a different proposition and might be just a bit too good in close, at the stoppages, against Essendon. Lucas is trying his hardest to get dropped and Lloyd refuses to kick his 900th goal. Maybe both will happen this week. Brown, Bradshaw up front and Black leading the midfield should eventually quell another Bomber win. One can only hope.

Sydney V Richmond Sunday SCG

Can I sit here and make a case for the Tigers to win two games in a row? No.

Sydney by 29

Melbourne V Geelong Sunday MCG

Will the Demons bring down the standard of the Cats to the degree that, while they will still win, they will not win easily? Or will the Cats just steamroll the 2009 Wooden Spooners and embarrass Jim Stynes sitting in the outer catching footballs kicked through the goals but only when Geelong is kicking to that end? Can Geelong win this by 100 points? I think so.

Western Bulldogs v St Kilda Sunday Telstra Dome

This should be a terrific game and Bulldog fans just wish their team didn’t have to travel to Perth twice in 4 weeks and lose the last two games on the trot as a result. Those two weeks have undermined our confidence as tipsters to actually give the Bullies any chance of winning this game. And who is going to pick against the Saints when they are sitting on top of the ladder with 200%??!! Should be a great game for a while but you would have to be a rabid Bulldog supporter to actually put a tick against their name in a tipping comp. They might win but form suggests otherwise.
