Carlton 18.12.120 Defeated Brisbane 9.11.65
The Lions were able to hold the Blues for a half but late in the 3rd quarter Carlton was far too good. There were eight 50 metre penalties, many of them ridiculous. It was a good lesson on how to spoil a game of footy. Goodbye Lions 2010. Judd steered the boat, Eddie Betts popped up in the forward line continually to kick 5, Garlett kicked just the 2 but seemed to be everywhere, Scotland, Murphy and Gibbs were the main possession winners for Carlton.  Rischetelli and Black tried hard for the Lions. The return of the Brown Fevola would help Brisbane but they are slipping below the Plimsoll line and recovery from here will be difficult. Carlton will be up against Freo, Hawthorn and the Bulldogs for that 4th position.
 
Hawthorn 12.7.79 Defeated Western Bulldogs 11.10.76
We were treated to a great game of football but the upsets continue for tipsters. 7 wins in a row by the Hawks has them knocking on the door of the top 4. Dangerous! This was a game played at intense pace right to the final siren and some brilliant passages of play, turnovers under pressure and miracle goals seemed to be the order of the day. Buddy kicked 3 for the Hawks and Rioli kicked 2 while for the Doggies Hall, Giansiracusa and Grant all kicked 2. Hodge again was a standout for Hawthorn. They are looking good the Hawks and considering they won the 2008 GF their presence might send a few shudders through the top 4 teams.
 
Fremantle 17.13.115 Defeated Port Adelaide 8.10.58
The Power kicked 1 goal after half time and Freo kicked 9. That lopsided second half was enough to help the Dockers to a 10 goal win. Freo's prize recruit Barlow broke his leg in the dying minutes of the game and that is a costly injury. It is doubtful he will return this season and for a guy who made it through to senior ranks from the VFL later than most this is a cruel blow. The fairytale is over it seems.  Sandilands was again a colossus for the Dockers ably assisted by Palmer who played his best game since his return from a knee reconstruction. Not too many Port players showed a lot in the 2nd half.  Crowley kicked 5 for Fremantle, surprisingly, as he usually tags an opposition player. I guess there wasn't a Port player worth the trouble.
 
Collingwood 20.15.135 Defeated West Coast 7.10.52
Whoosha reckons his players took a positive out of the game, something about longer periods of intensity and quick movement of the ball. The Pies kicked 9 goals to 1 in the 3rd quarter to completely break open the game. Wooden spoon for West Coast is calling. Jolley for Collingwood is starting to show some consistent form and as well as rucking he kicked 4 goals for the Pies as did Dawes, all bad news for Josh Fraser trying to play his 200th. LeCras continues to be able to kick goals for the Eagles but he stands alone most weeks. West Coast may look at a new coach next season regardless of contractual obligations to Worsfold. But in reality it's the players in the Eagles' line up – they are just not good enough at this stage of their careers. Collingwood have a few games at the MCG to finish the season but they also play St Kilda and Geelong again. The Pies should finish top 4 but not sure just where. They must beat one of the top teams to be taken seriously.
 
Adelaide 19.10.124 Defeated Essendon 5.10.40
The Crows continued on their winning way and will trouble the top sides as the season heads towards the finals. The Bombers were pathetic. They kicked as many goals as they did in the 1990 Grand Final! Tippett for the Crows continued his good form in front of goals with 6 and Dangerfield kicked 4. Not even the presence of Fletcher for Essendon would have made a difference in this game.  The Bombers will need a complete form reversal to make the finals and Adelaide might yet surprise, depending on their draw.
 
Geelong 14.14.98 Defeated North Melbourne 9.9.63
The final margin is a bit complimentary to North who were 8 -9 goals down going into the last quarter. The second leg break of the weekend happened unfortunately for North player Ziebell who actually broke his other leg last season?! Geelong got themselves back on track after last week's loss to the Saints. The Cats had Ling as a late withdrawal to add to the losses of Moonie and Johnson but when a team gets replacements like Chapman and Kelly does it really matter? Podsiadly returned from the wilderness he was in last week and kicked 5 again for the Cats.  Hansen booted 4 for North. Geelong seems to be ominously moving towards the finals and gaining strength as players return from suspension and injury. North has a long way to go yet but they will remain competitive this season.
 
Richmond 14.5.89 Defeated Sydney 12.13.85
The Tigers came from 33 points down in the 3rd quarter to win this exciting game by a few points. The Swans would never have allowed that in past years. Seems Sydney won't make the finals this year and the Tigers are tasting a bit of success this year. Reiwoldt kicked 5 again and leads the goalkicking by 3 from Barry Hall. It seems the Tigers are on the right track but it will be another 2 years before they might challenge for a top 8 position. It will be a nice change for them to not win the wooden spoon.
 
St Kilda 15.10.100 Defeated Melbourne 9.11.65
The Demons kept the pressure on the Saints for much of the game but they were never going to win this match. Even the late omission of Koschitzke and Reiwoldt still out injured was not enough to help Melbourne overcome the odds and cause another upset for the weekend. This was the 6th consecutive win for the Saints and considering their outs this bodes well for the finals again. The Dees are getting there but like the Tigers, they are still a couple of seasons away from a finals appearance.  Milne kicked 3 for the Saints and he is definitely the stand out small forward this season amongst some good ones like Betts, LeCras, Rioli, Banfield and Johnson to name a few.
