Preview tipping Score to Date: 29 from 40 = 72.5%
No doubt there are many of you out there wondering at the accuracy of the preview of last week’s game between Richmond and the Western Bulldogs which ended in a 130 point draw. Or not? Well, I did say it would be a high scoring affair I just didn’t pick the draw. Tipping is still reasonably easy at the moment with some teams so badly out of form that you couldn’t pick them while others are so hot you couldn’t not pick them. We have the Anzac day game this Friday, a blessed public holiday greatly needed after rising at predawn for the service and a slow recovery from the son’s wedding last weekend.
I lamented at the lack of any Barry Hall jokes last week and was pleasantly surprised by June Swift’s response as she sent me a picture of Barry swinging that punch as an ad for “Barry” perfume by Impulse – It’ll knock your man down!! Available in stores in about 8-10 weeks. Very good!
And Paul Kilgren informed me that the Collingwood versus Carlton game was telecast by Impadja TV channel 7 Central Australia. Huh? Anyway, Paul got along to see it at the Odin Tavern in Perth who has access to this telecaster, one I’ve never heard of, but then again never heard of the Odin tavern either. Ian Walton let me know he reads the previews to make me feel good and Tim Kelly corrected me about Telstra Stadium now being known as ANZ stadium. Thanks to you all. Complaints about AFL coverage in QLD begs the question about how much coverage will there be when the second team is formed on the Gold Coast. Members and sponsorship for the Gold Coast Galahs can be achieved if they place a footy field in the middle of their Indi car racing track!! Sometimes it’s as simple as thinking outside the square.
Well tipsters, some tough games, some easy games and some tricky games to pick from this long weekend. What feats of bravery will the ANZACS inspire into some of the bottom dwellers and make weekly tipping a misery? Good luck.
Collingwood V Essendon at the MCG Friday Anzac Day Game
Neither team is travelling well with the Pies losing their last two games and dropping out of the top 8. Collingwood has the same number of wins as the Bombers but it’s hard to reconcile them as being on a level basis. Essendon have come close in the third quarters of their last two games but the cost in petrol spent has left them well short at final siren time. I reckon it’s hang out the Bombers on the Siegfried line (as the song goes).

Fremantle V Geelong at Subiaco Friday Night
Like the HMAS Sydney, the Dockers are heading for a watery grave.

Carlton V Adelaide at MCG Saturday arvo
The Bloos are on a roll having won two in a row and the Judster is really starting to fire. It was a surprise win against the Magpies but it’s doubtful they will be able to surprise the Crows so easily. Mind you, I have lowered my earlier conception of Adelaide and rate them middle of the road rather than serious flag contenders but you would have to think that their consistency across the ground should be a bit too much for this up and coming Carlton team. The Aussies landed at Anzac Cove and Cape Helles in 1915 and this battle could be a bit of hell for The Blues even with their enemy fighting on foreign soil.

Western Bulldogs V West Coast Eagles at Telstra Dome Saturday night
What battle plan could Major Whoosha concoct to give us tipsters enough confidence that his beleagles (beleaguered Eagles???) could fight their way through a Bulldogs campaign and score a victory? Unless West Coast can do something braver with its forward forays their defence will be under the pump from Bulldog attacks. Chaaarrrge!!

Port Adelaide V St Kilda at AAMI Saturday night
Give me that again? Port was10 goals up against the Lions and lost by 2 goals and last week they were almost 10 goals up against the Eagles and won by 4 goals? That sort of performance doesn’t bode well for this game against the Saints even with the battle being engaged on Port home turf. Port supporters must be getting sick of paying good money to watch 100 minutes of football and having to leave after only 80 minutes. Maybe a 20% discount on AFL tickets this week will keep the supporters there long enough to know the final score rather than reading it in the local rag the next day. Saints are travelling okay but they failed miserably in their much hyped game against the Cats and had to dig deep to keep the Bombers at bay last week. Their lack of pace against a speedy team like Port will make this an interesting game and certainly not a gimme for the Saints. In fact I’m tipping the Power to continue their comeback as did the Anzacs in the battle of Magdhaba as I have just convinced myself with that argument.

Brisbane Lions V Melbourne at the Gabba Sunday
While Lethal looks like he is fighting the Battle of the Bulge his Lions are looking at this fight as did the Turks when they saw the Anzacs land at Gallipoli in the sights of their guns. With the game at the Gabba it could be a massacre. Fortunately Melbourne captain David Neitz has already copped it in the neck so he will be saved the embarrassment of being on the end of another hiding while dressed in battle uniform like his fellow troops. Fly the white flag now Demons!!

North Melbourne V Sydney at Telstra Dome Sunday
Here we go again underestimating North Melbourne just like we did the Kangaroos last season!!?? They keep on winning the line ball games and get beaten by those teams that are genuinely better than them. Oh boy, that was an astute observation. Then again, Sydney were marching along quite well until they, like the others before them, met that Geelong blitzkrieg!! Can they recover from that hiding and get back on the winners list by beating North Melbourne or will North continue its amazing manoeuvres and fight their way into history like the Rats of Tobruk? The game is at Telstra which is not the favoured battlefield of the Swans. Gonna have to put my money on the Rats...er the Kangaroos I mean....no...I mean North Melbourne.

Hawthorn V Richmond at MCG Sunday Arvo
The Buddy Franklin show versus the Richo show will make good viewing. Both combatants are in good form so far this season. I like the Hawthorn backline a bit better than that of the Tigers and Wallace will be tempted to play Polak on Franklin if things get out of hand, and they will. Richmond have shown they can kick reasonable scores over the past two weeks so Hawthorn doesn’t want to be resting on their laurels hoping to win in auto or else they will be surprised. We had the battle of Lone Pine and the Dardenelles and in this case for the Tigers they have to realise you win Somme and you lose Somme. Richmond has won enough.
